South Africa cruised to their first win at the ongoing African Games Cricket at the Achimota Oval A after dispatching Tanzania in the early hours of Friday, March 8, 2024.

The International Women’s Day fixture saw the women Proteas limit Tanzania to 66-10 in 18.3 overs, after the latter won toss. Nondumiso Shangase tormented Tanzania, taking 5 wickets, giving away 13 runs in 3.3 overs to be adjudged the player of the match.

It was not a tough second innings for the Women Proteas, as they sacrificed 2 wickets to achieve 67 runs in 10.2 overs and won by 8 wickets.

On Oval B however, Nigeria dismantled the batting line up of Namibia to secure their first victory in the morning after a great first innings.

The female yellow greens gradually and steadily made some great running in-between the wickets from the beginning to wrap up the first innings at 111-6 after winning toss.

Salome Sunday 40(36) had good partnerships in the middle order, while Namibia were finding ways to limit Nigeria. Salome wrapped up the game with a strike rate of 111.11.

A player of the match performance by Peace Usen with figures 4- 2-5-3 worried a determined but frustrated Namibian side to score 56-10 in 18.4 overs.

Peculiar Agboya wrapped up the game, getting her second wicket in her last over, giving away 9 runs (3.4-0-9-2), while Lillian Udeh also recorded these figures 4-0-11-2.

Nigeria’s win meant they top Group B with 3 points and face second place South Africa in the last group game on Sunday. Namibia, who defeated South Africa on opening day lie 3rd with 2 points and will come up against Tanzania, who are bottom with a point. It is a very opened Group A and any two teams can qualify.
