A remarkable performance by 2nd ranked Zimbabwe on Oval A in the afternoon of day 3 (March 10, 2024), against Kenya, handed them a 100% winning record at the 13th African Games at Achimota.
Modester Mupachikwa 40(40) continued her fine form and earned another player of the match accolade, as her partnership with Sharne Mayers 39(40) produced 70 runs and was only broken on the 12th over by Flavia Odhiambo (4-0-29-3)
Captain Mary-Anne Musonda 18*(9) continued from where Modester left off, giving her team enough boost to produce 142-5 in the first innings, the highest so far in the T20 African Games women tournament
Kenya did the best they could with Melvin Khagoitsa 30(47), opening and trying to hold on but only lasted the 15.5 over, with Kenya standing at 46-2. They however managed 74-4 and Zimbabwe triumphed by 68 runs.
In the other game, Rwanda leaves the maiden African Games Cricket with no points after losing their third game against Uganda on Oval B.
Uganda set the tone in the first innings, scoring 106-2, with Immaculate Nakisuuyi 57*(56), opening and closing.
Rwanda came into the second innings with a plan, but the swift bowling skills of Uganda dismantled their batting line up, as they scored 76-8 and the latter winning by 30 runs.
The group ended with Zimbabwe on top with 6 points, followed by Uganda with 4 points, Kenya with 2 and then Rwanda with no point.
Zimbabwe set up a semifinal clash with 8 ranked Nigeria in the afternoon of Monday, March 11 while Uganda face-off with top ranked South Africa in the morning.
Winners will go into the finals on Wednesday, March 12, 2024 with a third-place game to be played earlier.
