After suffering two opening defeats in Group B of the 13th African Games, Namibia have sailed through to the finals of the Men T20 after beating Group A leaders Uganda by 24 runs in the first semifinal match at the Achimota Oval A.
Namibia stepped in the crease first with captain Malan Kruger 21(22) and Nikolaas Davin 25(25), beginning well and leading the team to a 111/7 score.
It looked a chasable score for Uganda, but Namibia had their own plans.
The openers of the cricket cranes, Simon Ssesazi 7(10) and Roger Mukasa 36(43) were worried by the Shikongo brothers, dismissing Simon on the 3.6 over, Lutaaya on the 5th over and Klazinga on the 6.5 over, while Uganda stood at 24 runs.
From the 7th over however, Dinesh Nakrani’s partnership with Roger changed the face of the game, as Uganda had 56/3 by the 13th over as they improved their CRR from 3.42 in the 7th over to 4.50 by the 13th over, before Denish was dismissed by Brassell on the 12.5 over.
The woes of Uganda continued as Namibia tightened their bowling, restricting the former to 87/9.
Handre Klazinge won the player of the match with figures 4-1-19-4.
Namibia will wait for the winner between Zimbabwe and Kenya for the final match on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at the Achimota Oval A at 1.00pm.
