The Chevrons of Zimbabwe have lifted the Men’s T20 tournament Trophy at the 13th African Games on Saturday, March 23, 2024 at the Achimota Oval.
Having seen their ladies win it against South Africa 10 days ago, the Chevrons put up a great show to beat Namibia twice in the maiden T20 Cricket tournament in the African Games in Ghana.
Namibia scored first after winning toss and put 113/7 on the board, with Zimbabwe beginning their limitation in the first over when Wallace Mubayiwa dismissed Nikolaas Davin.
Namibia pushed to improve their run rate, with Kotze 26(26) and captain Malan Kruger 22(21) forming a formidable partnership which saw them 30/2 after the power play.
Zimbabwe had a task and did justice to it, scoring 114/2 in 14.5 overs, winning by 8 wickets with 31 balls remaining.
Openers Rodney Mupfudza 24(25) and Tadiwanashe Marumani 58(40) would have been enough for the Chevrons, but Johnathan Campbell 23(24) and captain Clive Madande 1(1) completed the task for Zimbabwe, while Tadiwanashe won Player of the Match.
Roger Mukasa of Uganda, with 189 runs, was named Best Batter, whereas Alpesh Ramjani of Uganda left with the best bowler accolade with 10 wickets taken.
Best fielder was Nico Davin of Namibia with 6 catches in 5 innings, while Owen Mzondo of Zimbabwe with 11 wickets taken and 3 player of the match awards was named the Most Valuable player of the tournament.
So, it is Zimbabwe, who have picked Gold for both Women and Men T20 tourneys of the 13th African Games in Accra.
The game of Cricket now part of the African Games will inspire other Associate countries to improve, as Ghana has set the pace, hosting a wonderful and history making maiden tournament.
