Group B ties of the ongoing Senior Women T20 tournament at the 13th African Games saw Zimbabwe and Uganda picking 2 points each in their openers on Thursday, March 7, 2024.

In a reduced overs (14) due to the delay for the game after some downpour, Rwanda threw themselves in to bat first, after winning toss and managed 72-7.

Rwanda, knowing they need to beat Zimbabwe for the first time, gave in their all, with the Ishimwe sisters Gisele 22(28) and Henriette 19*(20) coming pretty good in the first innings.

Zimbabwe however needed magical Modester Mupachikwa’s 38*(38) to wrap up the game in 13.4 overs to win by 7 wickets after scoring 75-3.

Modester was adjudged the player of the match, as her toils on the crease paid off in securing their first victory in the African Games on Oval A.

Uganda and Kenya played 17 Overs and the former restricted the latter to 63-8 in the first innings.

Uganda left it late to beat Kenya by 6 wickets after achieving 66-4 in 16.4 overs. Immaculate Nakisuuyi was good in restricting Kenya in the first innings, with bowling figures 4-1-17-2. Adjudged the player of the match, Immaculate gave out no extras and had an economy rate of 4.25.

Zimbabwe leads the table, followed by Uganda, all with 2 points apiece, while Kenya and Rwanda occupy the last two with no points.

Group B will now see the shakers and movers on Day two, as Zimbabwe welcome Uganda to the Oval A in the afternoon of Friday, March 8, while Rwanda also play Kenya on Oval B.
