While Group A of the Senior Women’s T20 tournament of the 13th African Games is open, Zimbabwe became the first team to record 2 straight wins to secure a semifinal berth after a tough win against Uganda on Friday, March 8, 2024.

The Victoria Pearls, with a win in their opener against Kenya suffered great restriction from Zimbabwe with Nomvelo Sibanda giving away just 2 runs in her first two overs plus a wicket.

The restriction continued till the last ball which saw Uganda all out for 72, as Josephine Nkomo grabbed the player of the match accolade with 4-2-9-3 figures.

Zimbabwe were also given a similar restriction but prevailed in the second innings to win by 4 wickets after scoring 75-6 in 19.4 overs.

Although they have one more match to play on Sunday, hopes of qualifying to the next stage is over for Rwanda, who succumb to Kenya on Oval B in the afternoon.  

Rwanda scored 69, all out in 18.3 overs, as Jemimah Ndanu, with 4-0-21-3 ensured Henriette Ishimwe 0(1) had an early dismissal on the 6.3 over with an lbw, just after dismissing Alice Ikuzwe.

Captain of Kenya, Esther Wachira 42*(49), took the responsibility of ensuring they pick their major points with a player of the match performance as she opened batting in the second innings, with Kenya achieving 72-3 in 17 overs to win the game by 7 wickets.

As it stands, Kenya has leapfrogged Uganda to occupy the 2nd spot with 2 points awaiting their final match against leaders Zimbabwe (4 points) on Sunday. Rwanda, bottom with no point will face Uganda (3rd with 2 points) to wrap things up in group B.

It is getting exciting, day by day and one cannot miss the beautiful actions at the Achimota Ovals, as Ghana hosts the first ever Cricket tourney in the African Games.
