In a bid to replicate what the Lady chevrons did few days ago by lifting the Women’s T20 trophy with gold medals, Zimbabwe turned their first hunger and thirst for glory on Namibia on Sunday, March 17, 2024.

The group B opener at the 13th African Games saw Zimbabwe electing to bat first after winning toss and putting on the scoreboard 197-6. Although Namibia got some wickets, there were some partnerships that kept the Chevrons going. Brian Bennette 65(39), Johnathan Campbell 39(28) and Rodney Mupfudza 32(22) had decent games which contributed to their performance.

Namibia came in stronger in the second innings, but they managed 162-8. It was a good innings for Namibia but the brilliant bowling prowess of the likes Owen Muzondo (4-0-3-3) and Tashinga Musekiwa (4-0-29-3) of Zimbabwe distorted the batting order of Namibia, as the former won by 35 runs.

Owen eventually won player of the match.

It was all green affair, as the yellowgreens of Nigeria succumbed to Tanzania’s 131-6 first innings score to manage 84-10 in 18.3 overs.

Tanzania win by 43 runs, with the likes of Ivan Selemani 33(34) and Jumaanne Maquater 32(50) making a big case for themselves.

Joshua Asia (4-0-18-3) was great in the b owling figures for Nigeria in the first innings, but captain of Tanzania, Salum Jumbe did the magic on the day, taking 3.30-10-5.

On Monday, Group B will see the top on the table clash between Tanzania and Zimbabwe while Nigeria play guests to Namibia in what looks like win or you are out situation in the early hours of the day.
