Nigeria put up a ‘never give up’ performance against Namibia on Oval B, keeping their fans on the edge of their seats with a last ball situation.
Namibia put up 121 runs for 7 wickets in the first innings after winning toss. The yellowgreens stepped in the crease with a wild mentality to give a chase.
Having in mind that the female yellowgreens 10 days ago defeated Namibia on day 2 of the Women T20, the Men needed to make themselves and the entire nation proud. The female yellowgreens defeated Namibia by 55 runs, after a 111-6 and 56-10 in 18.4 overs result.
Nigeria was 29-1 at the end of the power play, a run rate of 6.64 and required 92 runs from 84 balls. With 5 more overs to go, Nigeria stood at 80-5 as Namibia tried to frustrate them with a brace by Captain Nicol Loftie-Eaton on the 14.1 and 14.2, dismissing Abdul Kareem and Prosper Useni.
After trailing till the last over, and with Nigeria at 108-7, Captain Sylvester Okpe started a boundary campaign with 4, while partner Mohameed Taiwo responded to give them hopes. Seeking for their first victory after losing to Tanzania, Nigeria needed 2 runs to win and a run to tie from 1 ball.
Okpe gave the fans a 6 boundary runs to win the game by 3 wickets, having 126runs, with no ball remaining.
Isaac Danladi was named Player of the Match with figures 4-0-10-2 and performance 28(21).
Zimbabwe leads with 4 points, whereas Tanzania and Nigeria follow with 2 points each and Namibia at the bottom with no point.
