The Cricket cranes of Uganda ensured they beat Kenya for the second time in the Cricket event of the 13th African Games on Saturday, March 23, 2024.

The two teams have age rivalry between them, with Africa’s number 4, Uganda dominating their clashes with 10 wins out of 15 meetings in T20i, including their Group A match that Uganda won by 72 runs.

With their regular opening batters, Simon Ssesazi 66(44) and Roger Mukasa 25(27), Uganda scored 206/6, troubling the bowlers from the middle order till the last ball, as Dinesh Nakrani with 51*(22), scored boundary.

In the second innings, Kenya had a slow power play, scoring 27/3. Cosmos Kyewuta (4-0-13 -4), gave legendary batter Collins Obuya an early exit, as he exits as well from playing.

Collins, one of the top batters in the tournament with 126 runs from 4 innings and 3rd on the list has scored 1794 runs from 70 innings in T20i’s.

The wickets kept dropping with great limitation from Uganda as Kenya managed 100/9 in 20 overs.

Uganda won by 106 runs and increase their tally of wins to 11, against Kenya after 16 matches played.

Cosmos was adjudged player of the match with his bowling figures as he bounced back strongly from injury to torment batters with the ball, while appreciating his team mates for the contribution.

Captain for the day for Uganda, Kenneth Wiaswa says, they brought on a positive mindset and improved batting performance.

The cricket cranes ensured they did what the ladies could not do, 10 days ago, losing to the female yellowgreens in the 3rd place play-off.

History is written however, as Cricket has first been introduced into the African Games in Accra.
